Orofino Tavern Owner Raymond Rodgers Dies
Raymond Rodgers, 57, area native and long-time Orofino resident, was dead on arrival at St. Joseph's Hospital at 11:30 a.m. yesterday.
He reportedly had come to Lewiston to see a physician and was on his way to the hospital to be admitted. A hospital supervisor declined to give the cause of death and Rodgers' physician was not available.
A former Orofino Lions Club president, Rodgers was part owner of Eddie's Club at Orofino. He was also a member of Lewiston Elks Lodge and active in the Orofino Gun Club.
He was born Sept. 23, 1912, at Southwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rodgers. He attended school in the Southwick area and worked on farms in the Pullman area before moving to Orofino in 1944. There he was employed by Brundage Transfer and & Storage Company; and as a car salesman at Hansen's garage. He also was part owner of another tavern. In 1961, he and Clinton Philpot went into partnership at Eddie's Club.
Rodgers married Mabel Murray at Lewiston Sept. 9, 1936. She survives him at their Orofino residence. Rodgers is the third member of his family to succumb in the last 20 days. A sister and his mother, both of Moscow, preceded him in death.
Funeral services are pending at Gilbert's Funeral Chapel at Orofino.
